Galebre (5)

These pictures are the property of Tom Neuhaus. You may use each as displayed on this site for free; please attribute the source (Tom Neuhaus, Project Hope and Fairness). For higher resolution, you can purchase the original for $5. To do this, visit www.projecthopeandfairness.org and click the Donate button. Donate $5 per picture and then email me (tom@projecthopeandfairness.org) what pictures you want and I will send them back to you. Thank you in advance for donating cocoa farming tools to West African cocoa farmers by purchasing a picture.

Or, a yummy way to help the West African cocoa farmer is to purchase chocolate from , Sweet Earth Organic Chocolates. Or, visit Splash Cafe. Splash Cafe and its sister business, Splash Cafe Artisan Bakery donate at least $2500 every summer to Project Hope and Fairness and make the trips possible.

Galebre is on the road between Gagnoa and San Pedro (sic?). It extends along the road and probably has thousands of inhabitants. Kedesch, an NGO based in Cote d'Ivoire, is based in Galebre. Project Hope and Fairness has been visiting Galebre since 2005.

1) Kedesch16.jpg
A well in Galebre, Cote d'Ivoire, 2006. This is an especially interesting well, as it has dual purposes: wide enough to allow buckets but also equipped with a pump. Buckets bring water up faster. Pumps break down and then there's the question of who has the money to repair them.

2) Kedesch19.jpg
Interesting shot down into the well. This one is cement-lined, which produces clear water. Galebre, Cote d'Ivoire, 2006.

Tire "store". Stop here to have your tires inflated after spending hours on terrible roads. Galebre, Côte d'Ivoire, 2007.

4) P8220080_Hotel_Stan.jpg
A typical "African hotel" according to my assistant Evariste. "Hotel Friendship." Only $8 per night. You sleep on a 2-inch-thick foam mat on the concrete. There is a single plug in the wall, a single blue bulb in the ceiling, a fan to blow the mosquitoes away and to provide cooling, a door, and a single window. The walls do not extend to the ceiling, so you hear sounds made by all the other guests. Women sit in the courtyard, waiting for "business."

The toilet of the "Hotel Amitié". Galebre, Côte d'Ivoire. 2007.
