1) Abidjan02.jpg
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture the world has ever known. Designed by an Italian architect, it is dripping with symbolism, making it great fun to puzzle over. The guide, however, makes the job easy. Situated high above a lagoon, it represents order in the very chaotic world of a country that hasn't really come to terms with its own diversity. St. Paul reaches his arms to the skyline, embracing the diversity, and attempting to bring people of many languages and ethnicities into unity. So far, he has failed miserably, but the attempt rendered in prestressed concrete is noble.
